3 convicted for violation of Forestry Act

Travelling magistrate Ebou Sowe of North Bank Region recently convicted and sentenced three forest intruders, to a fine of D15,000 each in-default  to serve six months in jail.

The convicts are Ebrima Jobe, Mamad Jeng and Pa Saine respectively. They were sentenced after being found guilty of illegal logging with tractor and carrying illegal forest products contradicting the Forestry Act. This led them to be arraigned before the court of law of The Gambia for the offence committed.

In passing heavy sentence on the accused persons, the presiding magistrate Ebou Sowe said the three accused were convicted and fined (D15,000) each in- default to serve six months in prison.

He added that court also ordered under section (126) sub-D for the confiscation of the 30 timber pieces (slaps), and the unnumbered tractor which was used for the commission of the offence. They are forfeited to the Department of Forestry and shall be disposed on sale in accordance with section 97 of the Forestry Act 2018.
