Feb 26, 2024, 12:04 PM

According to reliable sources, two diplomats at the Gambian Embassy in Cuba have been recalled.

Sheikh Tijan Hydara, the ambassador and his Deputy Vincent Mendy were recalled amid a clash in the office over personal grievances, a source who is familiar with the matter told The Point.

The government is investigating the matter, the source added.

Sheikh Tijan Hydara is the leader of the opposition party, Gambia Alliance for National Unity (GANU). He was appointed ambassador on 17 August 2022 but he assumed official duty in 2023.

Mr Hydara had formed an alliance with the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) before he was appointed a diplomat.

It could be recalled three Gambian diplomats were expelled from the United States in 2023 following violation of the U.S. immigration rules.
