The Gambia Police Force has secured the conviction of two individuals Ousman Jallow and Alasana Jallow on charges of purchasing forged banknotes without lawful authority.

The accused were arraigned before Principal Magistrate Anna O. Mendy at the Brikama Magistrate Court, where they both pleaded guilty to two count charges.

Following their guilty pleas, the court convicted and sentenced Ousman Jallow, found in possession of $2,500 in counterfeit notes, to pay a fine of D25,000 or serve two years imprisonment in default.

His co-accused, Alasana Jallow, who was found with $267,550 in forged currency, was fined D50,000 or serve two years imprisonment in default.

The court also ordered that all counterfeit notes be destroyed by The Central Bank of The Gambia.

While noting that the convicts were first-time offenders, the court issued strong warnings to both and advised them to desist from engaging in such unlawful acts.

The Gambia Police Force remains firm in its commitment to combating financial crimes and ensuring that violators are brought to justice in accordance with the law.
