We wish Scorpions all the best!

After many years of waiting, The Gambia senior national team – The Scorpions are currently making their mark on the continent’s biggest football showpiece, Afcon 2021 currently underway in Cameroon.

The boys will be in action tomorrow, Saturday 29th in the quarterfinal stage against the host, the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon. However, this upcoming encounter means so much to The Gambia to keep our hopes alive. Remember, this is Scorpions’ first-ever appearance in this continental showpiece.

It would be recalled that The Gambia first participated in the Afcon preliminary rounds in 1975, but were eliminated by Morocco in the first-leg fixture played in Banjul and even the second-leg tie played in Rabat.

We therefore extend special commendation to the entire Coaching staff of The Gambia Scorpions, and the entire players for their exceptional performance.

Well, the Scorpions have proven many skeptics wrong; who at first see The Scorpions to be an easy ride for many footballing nations and expected them to be the ‘whipping boys’ of the tournament. Already, hopes are high in The Gambia camp. From their first match to the last game against Guinea, the zeal and comradeship among the team is just exceptional.

The Gambia team is really proving to the entire world that gone are the days, when smaller nations are underrated. The bravery and skills manifested by the gallant Scorpions of The Gambia speaks volumes of the country’s abundant raw talents that each football manager wants to sign.

Let’s not be surprised to see traffic jam after the Afcon by scouting agents, who want potential players to sign. However, what people should take is that The Scorpions started their qualifying campaign by stunning many nations. That alone sent clear signals to many pundits that football is fast developing in the Smiling Coast.

The whole nation is behind you. Always have in mind that with unity and cooperation, we can do it.  We have come a long way to make this history. And we can’t afford to lose the game.

To the Scorpions, we are proud and will continue to rally behind you till the end. Go out and make us proud. Always have in mind that the entire Gambia is behind you. Play as a team and always keep the country’s flag high.

“An untrampled scorpion troubles no one.”
