Zenith Bank has been crowned champions of the 2016 Inter-Bank Football Tournament after walloping Trust Bank in a final game played at the Independence Stadium in Bakau on Saturday.

The annual interbank football was organised by the Central Bank of The Gambia in memory of the late Central Bank Governor Famara Jatta.

The final was graced by managing directors of various banks and staff.

Zenith Bank opened the scores through Lamin Darboe in the 21st minute of play from Alieu Bah’s low cross, to fire the ball into an empty net.

Moments later, Alieu Bah doubled Zenith Bank’s advantage in the 32nd minute of the game from a dramatic shot, thus the first half ended 2-0 in favour of Zenith Bank.

Upon resumption of the game, Zenith Bank pushed body and soul forward to frustrate Trust Bank and as a result Baser netted the third goal in the 52nd minute of the game after capitalizing from Abdurrahman Nyang’s pass to make it 3-0 before Abdourahaman Nyang sealed victory in the 59th minute of the game to dash Trust Bank’s hopes of coming back to their feet.

Abdurrahman Nyang scored the fourth goal for Zenith Bank in the 59th minute of the game.

Mam Nderry Touray could have pulled back one for Trust Bank from a penalty spot in the 60th minute of the game but he missed the target.

Modou Lamin Sanyang’s stoppage-time strike only proved to be a consolation goal for Trust Bank.

As winners, Zenith Bank walked away with a giant trophy and a cash prize of D25,000, whilst Trust Bank received D20,000 as runners-up.

Speaking to reporters shortly after the game, Yaya Cham, chairman of the organizing committee, applauded the epic body of the banking system of the Central Bank of The Gambia for organizing the tournament.

Cham said further that the tournament was also conducted to bring the banking fraternity together.
