The Kanifing Magistrates' Court chaired by Magistrate Sagarr
Jahateh recently convicted and sentenced one Abdou Touray to a fine of D5,000 in
default to serve three months imprisonment with hard labour following his plea
of guilty for going armed in public.
According to the particulars of the offence, on 16thJanuary 2009
at Serekunda the convict was found in possession of a cutlass without
authority.
In his plea of mitigation he begged the court to temper
justice with mercy as he was a first offender.
In a separate development one Pa Mbye Badjie also appeared
at the Kanifing Magistrates' Court before Magistrate Mbake for going armed in
public, attempting to commit a felony and threatening violence.
According to the particulars of the offence, on 8thJanuary 2009
at Fajikunda the accused was found unlawfully armed with a knife, attempting to
commit a felony and threatened to stab one Yankuba Jallow. He denied the
charge.
Meanwhile he was granted court bail in the sum of D10, 000
with a Gambian surety.
The case was adjourned to 10thFebruary 2009.
