The Vice-President of the Republic, Her Excellency Dr. Isatou Nije-Saidy has advised the country's young journalists to better YJAG as a professional association.
She made this remark during a courtesy call on the Office of the Vice-President by the Young Journalist Association (YJAG).
Speaking at the occasion, Vice-President Njie-Saidy said she has no doubt journalism is a very important profession.
"Collaboration between government and media is critical," she noted, adding that they are very keen to have a good collaboration with the press.
The Vice-President encouraged the young journalists to be always responsible in their work and also look into developmental journalism. Journalism, she said, is a very difficult job but noble.
She noted that there is a need to hold regular capacity-building for journalists so as to have more professional journalists.
For his part, the President of the association, Assan Sallah used the forum to invite the Vice-President to the YJAG's forthcoming conference on climate change.
According to him, journalists have a crucial role to play in the fight against climate change.
Nfamara Jawneh, YJAG's pioneer President briefed the Vice-President on the objectives of the association and the activities they have undertaken. He hailed the Vice-President for her commitment in empowering young people.
Mr. Jereh Sanyangm, the Assistant Principal Secretary at the Ministry of Information, Communications Technology commended young journalists for their initiative.
Aminata Sanneh, 1st VP of the association commended the country's number two for receiving them.
The meeting was chaired by Demba Kandeh, YJAG's Public Relations Officer.
