UTG Science Club President Attends Youth Leaders Forum in Ethiopia

The President of The Science Club of The University of The Gambia (UTG) Awa Minteh, left the country on Monday for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Ms Minteh is to attend a week long Youth Leaders Strategic Review and consultative Meeting on the development and operationalization of the AU volunteer initiative.

The workshop will run from 16th - 24th March 2009. This workshop is organized within the backdrop of an agreed support for the promotion of multi - level and stakeholders' partnership for the initiation of a continent wide African Union Volunteer Youth Corps (AUYVC) stipulating the purpose for youth participation towards competence and skills development and youth contributions to efforts aimed at achieving the NEPAD and MDGs target including the international conference goal of 1990s.  The outcome of this process / workshop will immensely contribute to engaging young men and women in exchanging knowledge and experience on a range of activities amongst others. It will also enhance the professional growth of young people, and create opportunities for youth employment. The Africa Union Commission in collaboration with UNV Geneva, The European Commission and The UNFPA is supporting the forum.
