The aim of the online conference was to enable the students of both universities to interact with each other, to know and learn about each other’s way of life and culture.
Jimmy Hendry Nzally, UTG’s relations office, said the conference had been ongoing between the University of The Gambia and the Miami University since 2013, an idea initiated by him and was then held at the American Corner in Bundung.
He said the online conference between the Miami and UTG expose students to Gambian culture and also avail them the opportunity to clear some misconceptions about Africa in general.
He said the purpose of the conference was for Gambian students to reach out to each through online exchanges in a bid to share ideas, cultures, views, ideas and bringing discussions at fore as today’s world demands for information and communication without boundaries.
He added that a topic was given out to selected students and they would then have a meeting with the facilitator for orientation well before the conference date.
During the conference session, questions and answers are thrown at each other for interaction, he said, adding that the conference requires purely academics and the selected students should make a proper and comprehensive research before the session.
He said that only 15 students are needed for the conference and to participate in the conference, one should be a UTG student, with sound academic mind, tolerant to ideas and beliefs of other people, time conscious person and be ready to write report at the end of the session.
