Unicons FC are through to the second round of the Serrekunda West Sports Organisation (SWESO) Nawetaan after defeating Boyz United by 2-1 in their final group stage encounter at the Serrekunda West Mini Stadium on 18 October 2010.

Mbye Corr opened the score line for Unicons FC just under 30 seconds after the game kicked off.

Njaga Bass and Assan Lowe both had clear chances to increase the score line for Unicons FC before the end of the first half but failed to capitalise on the opportunities thus the first half ended 1-0 in favour of Unicons FC.

As action resumed in the second period of the game, Unicons FC continued to dominate the game by creating various scoring opportunities but failed to capitalise on them until in the 61th minute of the game when skipper Bakary Kuyateh sealed the victory for them from a sensible strike.

Unicons FC have now advanced to the second round of the league after collecting 10 points while Boys United are relegated from the league with only 2 points.

Boyz United, who knew that even a win could not take them through to the second round of the competition, showed little interest during the game.

Speaking to the head coach of Unicons FC, Dodou Kinteh, shortly after the game, he said he was delighted at collecting the three points from Boyz United in their final group stage game.

He revealed that they would prepare both physically and mentally for the second round of the competition knowing that it would not be a challenge for them.

Sulayman Gomez, head coach of Boyz United, said he was disappointed with the performance of his team, adding that they would now prepare for next year's qualifiers since they are relegated.

Note: In our Monday edition captioned Nawetaan Update we said that in the 5pm kick-off at the Serrekunda West Mini Stadium, Bundas FC defeated Pencha Bi FC by 2-1. We further stated that the game was not completed as the players refused to play any further saying the field was dark by then, which prompted the central referee to call off the game.

We also said that the final decision was left in the hands of the authorities at the Serrekunda East, when we actually meant the authorities at the Serrekunda West.

Meanwhile, it has come to our notice from the treasurer at Serrekunda West that a decision has been taken and the game - Bundas FC versus Pencha Bi FC will now be re-played at the Serrekunda West Mini Stadium on Sunday, 24 October 2010.
