This is bad!

It is unbelievable that some business people and shop keepers around the country are refusing to accept the Dalasi denomination in their business transactions with the public.

If we are to go by the release from the Office of the Inspector-General of Police, some business people and shop keepers around the country are refusing to accept the Dalasi demonination as legal tender in their transactions with the public.

The law should not be lenient on this issue as it is a major crime which is no less than an economic crime. Anyone found wanting in this terrible malpractice should be severely dealt with to serve as deterrent to others.

However, one thing that business people should understand is that national interest must take precedence over individual selfish interests.

No matter what, the Dalasi remains a legal tender for the Central Bank of The Gambia, and it should be used as such, otherwise the worth of our money would be in question.

"The general public is hereby advised to report any businessman or shop keeper failing to accept the Dalasi denomination in demand for goods to the nearest police station," the police release stated.

We encourage everyone to collaborate with the police in keeping with an effective police community relationship to help curb this menace before it worsens.
