The Point newspaper has been awarded the ‘most youth press friendly media’ award by organizers of the just concluded National Youth Conference and Festival (Nayconf) held in Bansang in Central River Region.
The award is in recognition of the paper’s role in promoting youth issues in The Gambia.
Reacting to the development, Nfamara Jawneh, deputy Editor-in-Chief of The Point and Youth Forum columnist of the paper, described the award as another boost for The Point newspaper.
“I think it is a manifestation of the role The Point newspaper is playing in the socio-economic development of The Gambia, particularly in the area of youth empowerment,” he said.
Mr Jawneh thanked the Nayconf organizers for the award and reassured all and sundry that youth issues will remain a top priority for the paper.
Such an award will also encourage other papers to do more for young people of the country, Mr Jawneh noted, saying they would continue to work assiduously to ensure The Point maintain the title come 2014 Nayconf.
The award was received on behalf of The Point by a senior staff member of the paper Musa Casa Taal.
