Taiwan donates government

The government of the Republic of China on Taiwan through its embassy in Banjul recently donated a handsome amount of money to the country's sports sector.

The cheque amounting to $25, 200, equivalent to six hundred and eighty thousand Dalasi was presented by the Taiwanese Ambassador to The Gambia H.E Richard Shih to the Secretary-General and Head of Civil Service, at a ceremony held at the latter's office in Banjul.

According to officials, the money is meant for the sports sector of the country.

In presenting the money, the Chief Taiwanese diplomat expressed delight at the gesture. The donation, he said, is his Embassy's commitment and contribution to the onward enhancement and development of the country's sporting sector.

Minister of Youth and Sports, Honourable Sheriff Gomez expressed gratitude to the Taiwanese government for what he described as a laudable gesture. He underscored the significant of sports in the development of any nation.

According to him, the gesture would go a long way towards enhancing the development of sports in the country.

In receiving the cheque on behalf of the government, Mariama Khan, Secretary-General and Head of Civil Service commented on the fruitful bilateral ties between the two countries. She hailed Taiwan for its continuous support to the socio-economic development of The Gambia.
