A Chinese national, Freng Han, was recently remanded in custody after he pleaded guilty to being in possession of an arm and ammunition.
Magistrate Malafi Jarju of the Brikama Magistrates’ Court presided over the case.
According to the facts as narrated by the police prosecutor, Sgt 2202 Fadera, the incident happened on 26 January 2015 at Old Yundum.
He said the accused person was visited by one Haddy Bah and Mustapha Dibba, who went to the accused’s home to enquire about some money between Mustapha Dibba and the accused person.
He added that Haddy Bah and Mustapha Dibba later left the accused person’s compound and, all of a sudden, they heard a gunshot inside the accused person’s compound.
They ran to the Old Yundum Police Station to report the matter; and they went with the police to the accused person’s compound, but they did not find the accused at his home.
They found an empty barrel-gun with serial No 062734099 and 5 cartridges which were used, and two cartridges which were not used.
Later the accused was arrested together with his watchman, Momodou Camara, and they were taken to the Old Yundum Police Station.
At the police station, the accused person confirmed to the police that the double barrel-gun together with the cartridges was his, and he bought it on 4 January 2011.
He said later the investigation was mounted, and the accused person was cautioned and charged with the offence committed.
The police prosecutor then applied to the court to make an order for the said gun to be confiscated to the state.
The case was adjourned to 24 March 2016, for sentence.
