The Super Nawettan Organizing Committee on 29 December 2012 presented a trophy with D50,000 to the Brikama zonal team, winners of the 2012 Super Nawettan zonal football competition.
Their opponents Bakau abandoned the final game played at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium, a fortnight ago, with three minute to go when Brikama was leading 3-2.
Bakau were banned for two years and slapped with a fine of D10,000 after their fans destroyed the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium perimeter fence, the roof of the pavilions and other invaluable materials during the 2012 Super Nawettan final fracas.
Sanna Darboe of Bakau received D500 as the best player of the tournament, while Ousman Manneh of Bakau received D500 as the leading goal scorer, with 6 goals up his sleeve.
The Super Nawettan Organizing Committee has given Bakau’s D30,000 runners-up prize to the Serrekunda East Development Organization for the replace and maintenance of the materials destroyed by angry Bakau fans after their 3-2 defeat to Brikama.
Speaking to reporters shortly after the presentation of the trophy and cash prize, head coach of Brikama, John Ndure, expressed gratitude in lifting the Super Nawettan trophy for the first time.
He added that he is the first coach to guide Brikama to their first Super Nawettan glory after hunting the trophy for many years.
Ndure thanked the Brikama Youth and Sports Association, Brikama fans and all those who contributed towards their success in the Super Nawettan.
Adama Sabally, Brikama zonal team captain, said he was very happy to clinch the zonal trophy for the first time, adding that Brikama have been in the Super Nawettan for many years but this time around they have worked hard to get the trophy with a convincing performance throughout the tournament.
