The draw for the 2011edition of the GFA Super Nawetaan was held at the FA’s Secretariat in Kanifing on Monday, witnessed by representatives from all the participating zones.
The Gambia Football Association (GFA) Super Nawetan zonal football was suspended temporally last year due to a fracas in the 2009 final game between Bakau and Serrekunda East at the Serrekunda West Mini-stadium, when Serrekunda East were leading Bakau by one goal to nil.
The Gambia Football Association launched an investigation into the matter which resulted in the suspension of Bakau for one year and some of their players were also fined and suspended by the country’s football governing body for involving in that fracas.
The ten major Nawetan centres are the 2009 champions Serrekunda East, Banjul, Gunjur, Sukuta, Brikama, Serrekunda West, and Lamin, with Barra Essau Mayamba to occupy Bakau’s position.
Manjai and Serrekunda were the two zones added to the famous eight zones to make it ten teams and the teams are divided into two groups of five teams each.
The groupings for the championship are as follows: group A comprises the 2009 champions Serrekunda East, Gunjur, Manjai, Banjul and Serrekunda Central; and group B consists of Lamin, Sukuta, Brikama, Serrekunda West, Barra, Essau and Mayamba.
The tournament will commence immediately after Tobaski.
