Sukuta resident convicted for assault

Magistrate Surahata Danso of the Bundung Magistrates' Court, on the 20th September 2010, convicted and sentenced on Lamin Cham, a resident of Sukuta, to a fine of D1,500 in default to serve nine months in prison for assaulting one Saja Kuyateh.

Mr. Cham was also ordered to compensate the complainant in the sum of D1,500 in default to serve another nine months in prison.

In his judgment, Magistrate Danso stated that the convict was charged for assaulting one Saja Kuyateh, by stabbing him with a sharp stick, and that he pleaded not guilty to the charge.

He added that the prosecution called two witnesses in support of their case, while the convicted person called only one witness.

Magistrate Danso further stated that the prosecution witnesses' evidence corroborated, and that the court believed their evidence.

As a result, the magistrate added, the prosecution had proven their case beyond reasonable doubt. Consequently, he found the accused guilty as charged.
