As Wallidan Register First Win

The Bakau giant killers Steve Biko missed another chance to climb at the top of the league table after suffering from a hard fought 2-1 defeat against struggling Walidan who registered their first victory in as many league matches.

Wallidan took an early lead with only 9th minutes on the clock thanks to a wonderful strike by playmaker George Cole who scored from a corner-kick to the delight of Coach Foday Bah who has come under heavy criticisms after strings of dismal results.

The blues boss, who only managed to guide the team to only one victory in the 12 club championship, saw Captain George Cole been withdrawn after sustaining an injury mid way through the second period after colliding with an opponent.

Biko responded with a brilliant leveler when Captain Assan Jatta's individual brilliance culminated to a pass to attack-partner Alasan Camara who made no mistake in firing home from a superb close range header to bring Biko back into a highly intense league encounter.

Biko occasionally went close to doubling their advantage through Assan Jatta, Alasan Camara, and Babucarr Jatta but the trio's efforts could not help the Bakau giant killers from going home with their second defeat in six matches which also dent their chance of climbing at the top of the table.

Bakary Njie doubled Wallidan's advantage from a penalty spot at the stoppage time an occasion which was understood to have left the Bakau outfit in disappointment which many believed was as a result of wrong decision by the central referee Ansu who denied Biko what looks like a clear penalty when Assan Jatta was brought down inside the Wallidan penalty box as s result of a heavy tackle by the blue boys defender mid-way through the second interval.

The win saw Wallidan move within 7 points in the table while Biko still managed to collect 10 points in six league matches.

Elsewhere, Real De Banjul enjoyed a narrow 1-nil win over Gamtel to dent the telecommunication boys title hope at the Serrekunda-West-Mini-stadium to the delight of closest rivals Gambia Port Authority who travelled to the Western Region to snatch all the needed points at the expense of Brikama United to level on points with Gamtel at the top of the table while Bakau United and Samger played a 1-1 draw at the Manjai football field.
