Rock bottom occupiers of the Gambia Football Association first division league Steve Biko on Sunday held second place Real De Banjul to a goalless draw in their opening game of the second round of the league fixtures played at the Serrekunda East Mini-stadium.
Real De Banjul FC dominated the game and also created most of the goal-scoring opportunities but failed to capitalise on them.
Bubacarr Trawally, Abdoulie Sanneh and Modou Njie-Sarr had chances to register their names on the score sheet for Real De Banjul FC in the first half but failed to materialise their chances.
Malang Sanneh also struck the cross bar for Real De Banjul FC in the 50th minute of the game from a classic header.
Steve Biko FC, Bakau giant killers as they are called, could only create few chances.
The draw means Real De Banjul have maintained their second place on the league standing with 20 points in twelve games while Steve Biko FC are rooted bottom of the league table with only 7 points in twelve encounters.
On the same day at the Independence Stadium in Bakau, Wallidan FC drew 0-0 with another struggling side Africell FC.
The stalemate means Wallidan FC are now third on the league table with 20 points in twelve encounters while Africell FC are second from bottom with 8 points in twelve possible league games.
At the Serrekunda West Mini-stadium on the same day, Gamtel FC also drew 0-0 with the Gambia Armed Forces FC. The draw means both teams have now collected 17 points each in twelve games.
Speaking to reporters shortly after the game, Alagie Sarr, head coach of Real De Banjul FC, said he was not much disappointed with the draw but added that their aim was to collect the maximum three points.
He said their aim was to collect the maximum points to close the gab on Brikama United, noting that his players were too hungry for victory, which was why they could not capitalise on their chances.
They would prepare well for their next game against Samger FC, he said, adding that they hope to carry the day at the end of the game.
