SJAG executive holds talks with GFF boss

The executive committee of the Sports Journalists’ Association of The Gambia (SJAG) on Wednesday afternoon held closed door talks with the president of the Gambia Football Federation (GFF), Lamin Kaba Bajo, in his office at Football House in Kanifing.

The SJAG delegation comprised acting president Musa Sise; assistant secretary general Alieu Ceesay; treasurer Namory Trawally, and vice president Uthman Jeng.

In what was described as a short but fruitful meeting, the SJAG executive led Musa Sise informed the GFF boss about their plans to help promote sports through responsible journalism, and to strengthen the existing cordial relation between SJAG and GFF.

The meeting also availed the SJAG executive the opportunity to inform the GFF official about the association’s upcoming 6th Annual Award Ceremony, in which it awards present and past sports personalities in recognition of their enormous contribution to sports in the country for the past year.

The fundamental mission and vision of the association is to enhance the development of sports journalism in The Gambia to the highest level possible, and speaking at the meeting, acting president Sise informed the GFF that the award has over the years attracted the attention of many.

According to him, this year’s award seeks to celebrate and recognize the country’s finest and Africa’s Best, referee Papa Gassama, and to equally give an award to the 1985 Zone II squad of both The Gambia and Senegal.

Sise, who is also the chairman of the organizing committee, announced that the award will be held on the 27th March 2015 at the Ocean Bay Hotel in Cape Point, and solicited the support and partnership of the GFF in the award ceremony.

According to him, this year’s event is expected to bring together past and present prominent sports personalities, from within and outside the country.

He went on to further inform the GFF official that top on the agenda of the SJAG executive is to build the capacity of its members, as many youngsters are now joining the media through sports journalism.

Receiving the SJAG delegation, Lamin Kaba Bajo applauded SJAG for the foresight in organizing such an award ceremony meant to reward and recognize sports personalities.

He assured the SJAG executive that the GFF will come on board to partner and support this worthy event spearheaded by the sports journalists, who are critical partners to the development of sports in the country.

He thanked the executive for paying a courtesy call on him, and promised to continue the collaboration between GFF and SJAG.

Abdoulie Star Jallow, 1st vice president of GFF and a veteran footballer was grateful to the association for the initiative taken to award and recognized present and past sports personalities.

Also present during the meeting were Abdou Salam Jammeh, GFF deputy secretary general, and Bakary B Baldeh, GFF media officer.
