At least 40 students in Fonkoi Kunda Village in Jarra East, Lower River Region recently benefited from sponsorship package from Schools for The Gambia, a charitable organisation based in Germany.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony held at Fonkoi Lower Basic School's ground, the Head Master of Fonkoi Kunda Lower Basic School, Mamadou Lowe, commended the Schools for the Gambia for sponsoring his students, adding that the sponsorship package would greatly aid the students, whose parents were unable to foot their bills.
He assured the benefactors that the sponsorship would go a long way towards helping the needy students. He appealed to them to continue supporting his school in order to realise their aspirations in the near future.
The Alkalo of Fonkoi Kunda Village, Sarjo Jallow, said "the donors really have heart for the people of Fonkoi Kunda Village," and thanked them for sponsoring their children's education. He wished them well in life and supplicated God to shower his blessing on them.
For his part, the Chairman of Schools for the Gambia, Mr. Gerhard Riebock, said that his organisation would continue to provide more assistance to poor children in the rural areas.
He hailed Fonkoi Kunda community for welcoming them in their village and expressed optimism that his organisation would continue to render more assistance to the Gambian children.
