Country coordinator for Schools for The Gambia has reiterated their commitment to the welfare of Gambians, especially in providing support to needy students and families.

Lamin Danso was speaking in Farafenni on Thursday during the handing-over of clothes to North Bank Regional Disaster Management Committee for onward distribution to affected disaster families in the region.

He said the support to the disaster management committee was in response to the recent structural collapse of buildings, which resulted in the complete displacement of some families.

Schools for The Gambia coordinator Danso disclosed that over the years the association has been supporting needy and deserving students and families to improve their livelihoods.

He noted that as part of their humanitarian support to education of children, more than 600 students are today benefitting from sponsorship packages to lower basic schools and tertiary institutions.

In receiving the items on behalf of the regional disaster management committee, Momodou B.K. Ceesay lauded the efforts of the donor in complementing the efforts of the National Disaster Management Agency in supporting affected disaster families, noting that the gesture would enhance the social status of the affected families.

He also said the response and mitigation of disasters calls for concerted efforts from all and sundry.

The NBR disaster coordinator assures of the committee’s resolve to mobilize resources to assist families displaced and affected by disasters.

He enjoins others to launch an appeal to citizens of NBR to come to the aid of affected families.

Speakers on the occasion included Morro Jagne, an official of Schools for The Gambia, who said they are fully committed to complementing government’s development efforts in health, education and food security.

He said more than 200 bicycles were distributed to students and the needy to facilitate their movement.

Haruna Kuyateh, a member of the disaster management committee, expressed delight at building sound relationship with the donors to enhance the living status of the families.
