The
Gambia Rural Poor Association (GAMRUPA) – Europe recently donated firefighting
materials to Brikama fire and rescue station.
The
materials were presented at presentation ceremony held at Siffoe village in
Kombo South District of West Coast Region.
The
donated materials included firefighting boots, jackets, helmets, leggings,
writing pads, and books among others.
GAMRUPA
Gambia country coordinator, Kalifa Kanteh, said the organisation is strongly
committed and interested in the development of rural communities and
institutions.
He
said the donation to Brikama fire and rescue station was provided by GAMRUPA
Netherlands and Belgium to improve the operations of the station.
GAMRUPA,
a nongovernmental organisation, was established to give support towards the
development and improvement of rural institutions and communities.
The
chairman of the village development committee, Ebrima Jallow, called on the
fire and rescue station to properly utilise the equipment.
Receiving
the items, Disciplinary Officer of Brikama Fire Station Joseph Mendy commended
GAMRUPA for the support, saying the donation came at a time wen the station was
running out of personnel protective clothes.
“The
materials will help improve the operation of the station,” he said.
