The band will perform tonight at the Sindola Hotel featuring DJ Fireman.
Speaking in an interview with Entertainment, one of the singers of the band, Nina Beste, said the band is currently in the country to promote its album as well as to discuss their band’s next plan.
She said they intended to have countrywide shows but had to change everything because the promoter of the band in The Gambia did fail to do what was expected of him.
After sunset on Saturday 27 April, the highway in Brikama is expected to rise above nature as The Roots Bongo Band will entertain the people of the area with signs and wonders.
According to Beste, The Roots Bongo Band was formed in the early 2000 with three pieces of acoustic band playing mainly on tourist entertainment fronts at hotels and restaurants.
“I met the band in 2009 to record some reggae music for myself because we all worked together composing songs; as a result we decided to join as a group,” she said.
“In 2010 Joe Hero, the lead singer, joined the band in the UK and in 2011 we decided to record our debut album in the UK written with the entire band in The Gambia.
“The album entitled Leaders of Tomorrow contained 10 tracks plus two remixed songs and is mainly root reggae.”
The Roots Bongo Band music star told Entertainment that the album was released in January 2012 and is currently available on sale at various recording studios in the country. The young female singer added that The Root Bongo Beach Bar in Bakau will open for business in May 2012.
The music star explained that the band has a reggae song for The Gambian leader, adding that members of the band are busy putting finishing touches on getting their second album out, which is also expected to hit the world when released.
