Feb 21, 2011, 1:57 PM

An impressive total of 372 points, 98 more than Region 3 in second place, was all but enough for Region 2 to claim their fourth consecutive Inter-Regional Athletics Championship title at a game played at the Independence Stadium on Friday.

The West Coast Region Athletics team, who proved a better side of the day at the expense of fellow title contenders, are celebrating another historic achievement in the annals of athletics in the country in a spectacular style after walking away with a nice-looking Inter Regional Athletics championship giant trophy staged for lower basic schools across the country.

Region 2, who got off to a flying start to the event,  did well to retain the accolade for the fourth time consecutively as they continue to lead the event from the beginning to the end of what proved to be an exciting moment of athletics championship in Bakau.

Region 3 also made a remarkable performance and came out second with 274 points, 61 points more than Region 1 in third place with 213 points.

Two hundred and three points were collected by Region 6, who occupied fourth place with 26 points above Region 4 that secured 5th position with 177 points.

The championship saw Region 5, who only managed to collect 165 points, rooted at the bottom of the six athletics team table, 12 points adrift of fellow poor performers Region 4.

The event is part of activities marking the 46th Independence Anniversary Celebration of the Republic of The Gambia.
