Red
Scorpions women football club have claimed the 2019 Gambia Football Federation
(GFF) women super cup title following their 2-0 win over Interior in the final,
played at the Independence Stadium in Bakau on Sunday.
Both
sides played brilliant football; Red scorpion carried super cup trophy after
netting two goals without interior answering.
Captain
Awa Jawo opened the scores for Red Scorpion in the 15th minute of the game from
30 yard strike. Ola Buwaro extended Red Scorpion’s lead in the 60 minute of the
match to earn her side the country’s women division one league season
traditional curtain title.
As
champions, Red scorpion went home with gold medals, giant trophy and a cash
prize of D75, 000 while runners-up Interior pocketed D50, 000.
Speaking
to reporters after the game, head coach of Red Scorpion, Choro Mbenga expressed
delight for her player’s performance, adding that they had implemented her
instruction in the final.
Head
coach of Interior, Mariama Bom Sowe expressed her disappointment with her
girl’s performance, noting that they prepared mentally and physically for the
super cup final encounter against Red Scorpions.
She
said they will go back to the drawing board and prepare themselves fit for the
2019-2020 league season.
