Real Curb Bakau United's Title Hope

Mar 16, 2009, 6:21 AM

Real de Banjul 2-1 win over leaders and title contenders Bakau United, has dampened their tilt for glory. As the race for the title intensifies, Real who were buoyed with the return of Pa Landing Conateh, scorer of the winning goal, inflicted the second consecutive defeat in a row for the Bakau Boys.

Real's 2-1 victory has left the race open, after mid fielder Dubai Gaye gave Real the lead in the 30th minute, and it was not too long before star striker Daddy Gai leveled the score to 1-1 in the 38th minute.

Mid field maestro Pa Landing Conateh, kept his team in front again shortly before the break with a spectacular long range shot in the 44th minute of the first half.

The second half was devoid of any goal. Bakau United mounted a lot of pressure to level the score but to no avail. This score line increased Real's points to eight in the league.

Bakau United made a promising start in the league but with a recent floppy performance, many have questioned whether they have the depth of squad to maintain top spot in the league.

Real have recently rejuvenated themselves since they changed their coach. The City Boys played three games under the stewardship of their new coach. Real amassed seven points in three matches.
