The Normalization Committee of the Gambia Football Association wishes to inform the general public that after given due and considerable thought to the crowd trouble between Steve Biko and Brikama United in a league game played on Friday 30th March 2012 at the Independence Stadium in Bakau, a sub-committee has immediately been formed to look into the facts of the disturbances at the Independence Stadium that left some players and fans of the two clubs injured.
According to a press release from the Gambia Football Assocation, the GFA Organising Committee during its weekly meeting held on Tuesday 3rd March 2012 received reports from the Referee Ansu Jaata, Referee inspector Jereh Faye, GFA Physio Pa Matarr Ndow and Mr Lamin Camara, acting-Chairman of Referees Committee, who were on the ground at the time, has finally decided to form a seven-member committee to factually look into the cause of the trouble. The membership is as follows:
Alh Omar Sey, Vice Chairman of the Normalization Committee as the chairperson, Cherno Marena - Member, Cherno Touray Member, Bakary B. Baldeh, Secretary and Media Officer, Kebba Ceesay - Member, Lamin Camara, Member, and Bakary Touray.
Meanwhile, the police are also carrying out their parallel investigations to establish the true cause of the trouble. They have further invited some officials of the GFA and other stakeholders for questioning on the matter.
Furthermore, match referee on the day Ansu Jaata has been levied a suspension for the rest of the season by the Referees Committee and endorsed by the Organising Committee for performing far below standard on that fateful day.
Finally, the GFA would keep the general public informed about developments of the sub-committee as the findings progress.
