The trial of Yusupha Camara, who is charged with threatening violence recently continued before Magistrate Ceesay of the Kanifing Magistrates' Court with the testimonies of the two prosecution witnesses: Mariama Camara and Mama Samateh.
Mr. Camara is alleged to have intimidated or caused terror by threatening to kill one Mariama Camara, with a cutlass by brandishing the same at her, a charge he denied
Testifying for the prosecution, the first prosecution witness, Mariama Camara told the court that she resides in Dippa Kunda, and that she recognised the accused person.
According to her, on 30th June, 2010, she was sitting with her elder sister in their compound when the accused came in with a cutlass and asked her about the whereabouts of his father.
She said she advised her sister to run away, as she also tried to run away. She adduced that two police officers found her on the street and asked her what was the matter. In reply, she told the officers that her brother was not well, and that he has entered in their compound with a cutlass.
Further testifying PW1 stated that the accused found her with the officers and he told the officers to move and leave them alone.
She added that when the police left she also ran away and it was then the accused threw the cutlass on her, and subsequently she felt down.
The accused, he added, tried to strike her with the cutlass, but was apprehended.
The said cutlass was admitted in court as exhibit.
Also testifying, the second prosecution witness (PW2) Mama Samateh, informed the court that on the day in question, the accused came into their compound with a cutlass, while she was in the kitchen.
According to her, when PW1, Mariama Camara, ran away, she also ran away and hide herself.
She added that the accused tried to use the cutlass on PW1 when the police intervened and arrested him.
The case was adjourned to 30th August 2010 for defence.
