Obituary: GFA mourns former referee Abdoulie Jaata

The Executive of The Gambia Football Association (GFA), the Gambia Football Referees Committee and the GFA Secretariat are currently mourning the death of retired Gambian referee Abdoulie Jaata, aliasTemiya.

The passing away of Jaata took place on Monday 20 February 2012 at his Macdonald Street residence in Banjul after a brief illness.

The late Abdoulie Jaata, 61, started refereeing in 1977 and did officiate matches across the Greater Banjul Area and the hinterland.

The late Mr Jaata was said to be well known for his commitment to the development of refereeing and his dedication to coaching young Gambian referees on the sidelines.

He was alsoa member of the Banjul Sports Committee helping to develop and unite Banjul youths through sport. He was survived by three kids: two girls and a boy.

The GFA Executive and the Referees Committee enjoin the Gambian football fraternity to pray for the departed soul to rest in perfect and eternal peace, and may his family be able to bear the irreparable loss.

Mr Jatta was the second retired Gambian referee who had passed away in less than a year after the late Alhagie Badou Jassey, former chairman of the Referees Committee, who also passed away after a brief illness in May 2011.
