The Independent Electoral Commission, (IEC), yesterday announced there will be no extension of the dates for the general registration of voters exercise.
The announcement comes barely two days after the Commission warned that they may apply penal laws against those attesting for minors.
A statement from the Commission yesterday also revealed that the number of registered voters at the end of the fourth week of the exercise (5th May-1st June 2011) is 686,985 (Six Hundred and Eighty Six Thousand, Nine Hundred and Eighty Five).
"In exercise of the powers conferred on the IEC by Section 14 of the Elections Act, it was declared that the general registration of voters exercise will commence on Thursday 5th May 2011 and will end on Friday 17th June 2011," the IEC said.
"Consequently, the Commission added, "those eligible Gambians who have not yet registered are encouraged to do so in the remaining two weeks."
"The Commission wants to make it abundantly clear that there will be no extension of the dates for the general registration of voters exercise."
