Nigerian businessman charged with economic crime

Obiora John Nwobodo, a Nigerian businessman in The Gambia, was yesterday charged with economic crime, at the Special Criminal Court in Banjul before Justice Emmanuel Admadi.

When the case was called, DPP SH Barkun announced his representation for the state, while defence counsel Ozuma announced his appearance for the accused person.

The particulars of the offence stated that, between 2006 and 2012 as the proprietor of Trade Plus Company Ltd and Airlift Cargo Service in the Kanifing Municipality, Nwobodo, unlawfully failed to pay tax to GRA that cause financial loss in the sum of D456,641.88.

He denied the charge preferred against him, and the court adopted the previous police bail conditions granted him during the investigation of the matter.

The case continues on 20 March 2014, for hearing.
