Nianitama Plastic-free Group and Recycling launched

Lamin Samateh, a senior officer at the National Environment Agency, Saturday presided over the launching of Nianitama Plastic-Free Group and Recycling in Gunjur, Kombo South.

In his launching statement, Samateh said they are aware of Nianitama’s efforts to eradicate plastic bags in Gunjur and environs.

Samateh said the plastic bag initiative was established in 2012, to eradicate plastic bags in the country by 2018.

He expressed NEA’s readiness to render support to Nianitama Plastic-Free Group and Recycling, in a bid to eradicate plastic bags in the country by 2018.

The chief executive of officer, Nianitama Plastic-Free Group and Recycling, Alieu Darboe, said the organization was established in 2012 to keep Gunjur and environs free of plastic bags.

Darboe expressed their willingness to work with NEA in order to eliminate plastic bags in the country by 2018.

He hailed Nick Morris, Caroline and TRAUD for supporting them in their efforts to eliminate plastic bags in the district.

Darboe also thanked Buba Soto Touray for his personal contribution toward the Nianitama Plastic-Free Group and Recycling, financially and morally.

The Alkalo of Gunjur, Alhagie Omar Jiki Darboe, applauded Alieu Darboe for the initiative.

Alkalo Darboe called for peace and unity in the country, adding that they would support the eradication of plastic bags in the country.

The councillor Gunjur Ward, Karamo Jorang Bojang, also thanked Alieu Darboe for the initiative.

The chief of Kombo South, Alhagie Sheriff Ajeh Janneh, expressed his readiness to continue rendering support to the initiative.

Speaking on behalf of the council of elders, Fadinding Darboe also expressed similar sentiments.

As part of the launching of the initiative, the Gunjur Health and Social Welfare sub-committee donated D10, 000 to Nianitama Plastic-Free Group and Recycling to purchase dust-bins.
