A new Medical Diagnostic Centre has recently opened at Kanifing South near the Family Planning Clinic.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Health Matters about this new development in the health sector, the administrator of the Centre, Bakary Sonko stated that the medical diagnostic Centre is set up to compliment government efforts since no single entity can provide the health care demand of any given country.
He noted that base on the increase in the demand for essential health services in the country both within the national health services and other private sectors, they realized that many a time some of the essential services are not readily available across the board. “So in order to supplement the need of such demands we established a medical diagnostic centre aimed at improving an effective and efficient patient care in the country”.
He said the centre is not only running diagnostic test alone but also a small scale retailing of medicines. “We also do prescribe as the need arise”, he added.
Mr Sonko pointed out that the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has responsibility for the articulation and improving availability, access to quality of medical diagnostic services, which is critical to effective and efficient patient management .
He added that the staff working at the centre offers quality and effective services noting that they provide quality care and expert support to health care professionals and patients.
He pointed out that MDC is one of Gambia,s largest community base diagnostic and treatment centre.
