Mobile thief convicted

Magistrate Jallow of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court recently convicted and sentenced one Babucarr Gaye to a fine of D5,000 in default to serve three months in prison.

Babucarr Gaye was convicted upon his own plea of guilt of the charge of stealing.

The charge sheet read that on 5 July 2011, at the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court, the convict, Babucarr Gaye, stole one mobile phone marked Blackberry valued at D2,700, being the property of one Isatou Jobe.

According to the facts of the case as narrated by the prosecuting officer, Sgt 335 Nying, it happened on 5 July 2011, between the hours of 10:30 am and 11:00 am, at the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court, in the secretary’s office.

She said the complainant was charging her mobile phone while she was busy typing, adding that the convict then took the said mobile phone but was seen by the complainant’s co-worker.

She narrated that the convict then ran away, but was later apprehended and charged with the offence committed.
