The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) last week revealed that more than a million migrants have made it to Europe in 2015 mostly through the Mediterranean.

The organisation said the statistics indicates “threatening figures of people living their homelands”.It pointed out that even children, women, and physically and mentally fragile men have fled their motherlands for their lives.

Analysts said this year’s figures manifest “a wild era of displacement” mostly from Middle East, Asia and Africa. However, some observers said most of those who made it to Europe this year came from Syria fleeing war.

This year, almost all mainstream media were dominated by news and pictures of vast crowds struggling through the borders of European countries and the brutality meted to them in some places and the rejection in other countries.

Many analysts said this year’s migration conundrum is the worst humanitarian crises since World War II.
