Manju F.C, of Basse Mansajang Kunda, were recently crowned champions of the Africell sponsored tourney in Basse and its satellite areas. Manju F.C clinched the giant trophy following a thumping 2-0 thrashing of their opponents Dego F.C in a fiercely contested final played at the Basse Mini Stadium.
The match produced some spectacular performances from both teams. The defending champions Manju F.C took the lead at the dawn of the first half through their highly rated striker Bakary Baldeh who gave his team the lead after scoring from the scramble. Despite being behind Dego F.C continued to put up a strong challenge to level the scores but their efforts proved futile.
Reacting to this mounting challenge Manju F.C responded swiftly in the 65thminute of the second half by netting the killer goal through Ebrima Camara, who our reporter branded their 'goal machine'.
In an interview with this reporter, the representative of Africell assured the Divisional Sporting Committee that after they have set the ball rolling by extending their benevolent hand in U.R.R sporting activities, the moral and financial support will continue. He further claimed that this gesture is part of their corporate responsibilities.
The winning team went home with D5,000 and a trophy, the runner-up bagged D3,000, leading goal scorer received D500 and the best-behaved team got D2,000.
