One Sulayman Ceesay was Monday convicted and sentenced to death by hanging, by the Special Criminal Court in Banjul.

This was after the court found him guilty of the murder of one Adama Jatta, by decapitating her body at Jamburr village in 2010.

Justice Nkea, in delivering his judgment stated that the convict was charged with murder, which he denied, adding that the prosecution called ten witnesses in support of its case, while the accused testified on his own without calling a witness.

He added that PW2 said in his evidence that they saw a man with a blue shirt coming from where the deceased was found death.

He said PW2 also said they saw the convict with a pair of scissor, a knife and a black nylon bag, adding the court was convinced that the naked man who was coming from the direction of the deceased with a pair of scissors, knife and a black nylon bag containing a blue shirt was the killer, even though there was no eyewitness.

“The court was convinced that the prosecution had proven their case beyond all reasonable doubt, and the accused was hereby convicted and sentenced accordingly,” the trial judge declared.
