Man convicted for theft

A man was recently convicted and sentenced to a fine of D20,000 in default to serve three years in prison with hard labour, by the Kanifing Magistrates' Court presided over by Magistrate Tabally.

Lamin B.M. Ceesay, found guilty of stealing by clerk or servant, was also ordered to pay a compensation of D145,000, within two months in default to serve four years in prison.

He was ordered to enter into a recognition in the sum of D250,000 with two Gambian sureties, who must deposit title deeds.

The charge sheet revealed that in 2009, at Kuntaur, being employed as a credit officer of GAWFA, misappropriated D121,986.62 for his own use, the property of his employer, the amount that came into his possession as a result of his being an employee of the aforesaid employer.
