Man convicted for obtaining goods by false pretence

Magistrate Jallow of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court recently convicted and sentenced one Dodou Kanteh to a fine of D20,000 in default to serve one year in prison.

Dodou Kanteh was convicted upon his own plea of guilt of the charge of obtaining goods by false pretence.

According to the charge sheet, on 16 May 2011 at Serrekunda, in the Kanifing Municipality, the convict, Dodou Kanteh, obtained ten plastic chairs from one Salieu Jang Jallow, under the pretext that he would pay the money.

The facts of the case as narrated by the prosecuting officer, Sgt Kinteh, stated that on 16 May 2011, the convict took ten plastic chairs and went away with them.

He said the convict was asked to go with one Alieu Bah to give the money, but the convict dropped the chairs around City Pub and proceeded to Latrikunda German where he disappeared from the said Alieu Bah.

He said the matter was reported to the Serekunda Police Station and it was not till 28 June 2011 he was arrested.
