The committee members of the Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) and Disaster Management Committee (DMC) over the weekend held a day long quarterly meeting at the KMC campus. In her brief statement, the National Disaster Management Agency's Coordinator for KMC, Mrs. Binta Sey-Jadama said the purpose of the quarterly meeting was to discuss the past activities carried out by the committee between the first quarters of the year. Mrs. Jadama highlighted some of the developments registered by the KMC Disaster Management Committee and also dilated on some of the constraints they were confronted with during the year. She said all the training programmes carried within these past months were very successful, adding that this year's activities will include the training of KMC staff on the agency's act/policy. She said members of KMC staff need to know their mandates as far as disaster is concerned, whether natural or manmade.
Mrs. Jadama then commended all their partners, who have positively responded to the KMC 2009 flood victims and called on others to emulate them. According to her, among the partners of the KMC Disaster Committee over the years were President Jammeh, Vice-President Aja Isatou Njie-Saidy, Department of Health, Gambia Red Cross Society, Concern Universal, World Food Program (WFP), Muslim Aid The Gambia, Supreme Islamic Council, Hearts of Africa, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE), UNFPA, UNICEF, Friends of The Gambia (FTG), Great Commission Movement Gambia (GCMG), Roots of Africa, Gambia Christian Council and NDMA.
