Board members of the Jammeh Foundation for Peace (JFP) yesterday presented a cheque for D5 million to President Yahya Jammeh.
The cheque, presented to the Gambian leader at a ceremony held at State House, was from funds generated at the JFP’s last annual gala dinner held at the Paradise Suites Hotel.
Speaking at the ceremony, President Yahya Jammeh commended everyone, be they corporate bodies or individuals, who contributed in one way or the other to the success of the gala dinner.
“I am thanking every Gambian who has been contributing and continues to contribute to the JFP. Wealth has no use in this world, and if you have billions and you don’t give out charity, the day you die you will only go with D35.00,” Jammeh stated.
He also thanked the JFP board and fund-raising committee members and their support staff for a job-well-done, noting that “nothing is small, even if you give somebody a dalasi it will benefit somebody somewhere”.
Vice President Isatou Njie, who is the chairperson of the JFP board, said President Jammeh set up the Jammeh Foundation so that The Gambia can move forward.
“Thank God, today Gambia is a country to be reckoned with under President Jammeh’s leadership; and lets not see JFP as President Jammeh’s foundation, but he set it up for us,” she stated.
According to the vice President, every Gambian is a shareholder at JFP because it helps even people beyond the shores of The Gambia.
Nancy Njie, chief executive officer of the Jammeh Foundation for Peace, in presenting the cheque to President Jammeh said Gambians and non-Gambians appreciated the call by President Jammeh to contribute to the success of the gala dinner, which she described as the best gala dinner in Gambian history.
According to her, among the main focus of the JFP is health, women empowerment, youth development and education.
Ministers Balla Garba Jahumpa of Health, Fatou Lamin Faye of Basic and Secondary Education, Fatou Mass Jobe of Tourism, Dr. Njogu Bah Minister of Presidential Affairs, and Addy Sarge, chairman of the fund-raising committee all commended JFP staff for their utmost patriotism.
