Jammeh names first ministers in new Cabinet

Feb 6, 2012, 3:15 PM

President Yahya Jammeh Friday named the first ministers of his new cabinet, retaining the vice president, interior, tourism, and finance ministers.

Jammeh, who was in November 2011 re-elected for another fourth five-year term as President of the Republic of The Gambia, took the move a day after he dissolved his entire cabinet.

A statement from the Office of the President read over GRTS said Jammeh has appointed Aja Dr Isatou Njie-Saidy as vice president and minister of women’s affairs, and Fatou Mass Jobe as minister of Tourism in his new cabinet.

The statement further announced the appointment of Mr Mambury Njie as minister of Finance and Economic Affairs; and Mr Ousman Sonko as minister of the Interior.

All the four appointees so far retained their previous post in the former cabinet, which consisted of 16 ministers.

It is worth noting that the ministries of works, construction and infrastructure, agriculture and energy are being overseen by the Office of the President.
