Jambanjelly on Saturday beat high-flying Kartong 1-0 in the first quarterfinal game played at the Sifoe Football Field to sail to the semi-final in the 2013-2014 late Kajali Badjie and late Ismaila Nyassi Kombo South district biggest football festivity.
Kartong made a flying start to the game, dominating ball possession and creating numerous goal-scoring opportunities but fired all their opportunities away.
Jambanjelly, who were struggling to establish themselves in the game, opened the tally through Lamin Badjie in the 6th minute of the game from a brilliant finish from Majaw Badjie’s cross, to give Jam City boys the lead, which eventually proved to be the winner.
Kartong responded back quickly for an equalizer, mounting heavy pressure on Jambanjelly defence and creating several goal-scoring opportunities but squandered all of them.
Kartong finished the game with ten men after left-back Farama Jatta aka Mamakeh was sent off for stamping on Jambanjelly’s Malick Darboe in the 59th minute of the game, thus the game ended 1-0 in favour of Jambanjelly.
The victory has earned Jam City boys a place in the semi-final while the Folonko boys are out of the competition, to hang their boots till next season.
