Reports reaching this paper have confirmed that the General Manager of the Independence Stadium and Friendship Hotel, Musa Njie, has been dismissed.
When this reporter contacted the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Alieu K. Jammeh, he confirmed the report.
PS Jammeh also confirmed that Musa Njie was sacked alongside Modou Cham, Manager of the Friendship Hotel, and Dawda Sarr an accountant working at the Independence Stadium and Friendship Hotel.
The three were all given their dismissal letters from the Personnel Management Office (PMO) on Tuesday.
"The government has instructed the three former employees of the Ministry of Youth and Sports to surrender their travel documents and ID cards to the police," the source said.
According to our sources, the government is interested in knowing how the Stadium is being run, and to that effect an audit exercise will be carried out to establish a range of issues that are of concern to the state.
The PS stressed that the Independence Stadium is in a deplorable situation, and the government wants to reposition it to provide efficient services and facilities to the public with modern and well-maintained infrastructure.
He revealed that government has put in place an interim management team to run the affairs of the Independence Stadium and Friendship Hotel.
"The interim management will be headed by the Deputy Permanent for Sports at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Abdoulie M. Kah," he further revealed.
He said that the composition of the team and their terms of references will be shared with the general public, in due course.
Meanwhile, efforts to talk to the three former Youth and Sports Ministry staff proved futile.
