The defence team representing the six suspects in the alleged Kuntaur murder case on 27th October 2009, raised concerns over the delay of the case.
The accused persons, Abdoukadir Sillah, Banna Sillah, Balla Musa Conteh, Amadou Gai Kaddijatou Conteh and Kebba Sawaneh are charged with the murder of the Kuntaur Imam.
Lawyer Edu Gomez told the court that he was surprised why the case would not proceed, stating that the accused persons had been in custody for almost 18 months now. He added that the court had made a pronouncement on the last sitting of the case.
Lawyer Gomez went further to tell the court that a series of adjournments is an infringement on the rights of the accused for speedy trial as stipulated in the constitution.
He urged the court to press on the prosecution for a speedy trial of the case.
Lawyer Jobarteh also added his concerns over the delay of the case, noting that the prosecution had filed a scanty bill of information.
Justice Richards of the Special Criminal Court of the High Court then urged State Prosecutor S.H. Bakum to supply the necessary information pertaining to the case to Defence, and ruled that the case would henceforth be heard on a weekly basis.
Other lawyers in the case are Borry Touray and Edrissa Sissoho.
The case was adjourned to 5th November 2009.
