Immigration Dept boosted with 2 vehicles, traffic jackets

The Gambia Immigration Department yesterday received a donation of two vehicles and Traffic Reflecting Jackets from the Federation Office of Immigration in Switzerland through Laurent Risi.

The donation was made at a handing over ceremony held at the Ministry of Interior office in Banjul.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Minister of Interior, Hon. Ousman Sonko said he was deeply honored and privileged to preside over the handing over ceremony of the donated vehicles and Traffic Reflecting Jackets.

He said that the gesture could not have come at a better time than this when they are trying to fight against illegal migration.

Mr Sonko stated that no single country can stop illegal migration and appealed for the co-operation of other partner countries in the fight to reduce the menace.

He also stated that the youth who involve in illegal migration are the ones who serve as the backbone of the development of any country.

He noted that the Government of The Gambia, under the leadership of President Yahya Jammeh, is creating a lot of projects to create job opportunities for the youth.

Minister Sonko also appealed to the general public to be providing information to the authorities, noting that the authorities cannot do it all alone without the cooperation and support of the general public.

He thanked all their partners both home and abroad for supporting the department of Immigration.

“The relationship between The Gambia and Switzerland has been growing from strength to strength and we hope for a more brighter cooperation in future between the two countries,” he said.

Minister Sonko also thanked the Gambia Immigration Department for the good job they are doing, noting that any success they achieve is through their hard work.

He finally thanked the President of the Republic of The Gambia, who he said, is always supporting the Armed and Security Services of the country.

Mr Laurent Risi, from the Federation Office of Immigration in Switzerland also thanked their Gambian counterparts for the good job they are doing.

Mr Risi noted that illegal migration cannot be stopped by any single country in this world without the support of others, adding that the only thing they need to do is to work together to reduce it.

“If you need any support, just let us know and we will do our best to help you,” he said.

Pa Baboucarr Mboob, Deputy Director of the Gambia Immigration Department, on behalf of the Gambia Immigration Department and the government of the Gambia, thanked the donors for their kind gesture.

He stated that the donation came at a right time and assured them of the maintenance of the vehicles.
