Hoping for the best

Jan 2, 2013, 9:38 AM

As we enter the New Year, it is our hope that it would be one of the best years for the country and her people.

The New Year would, no doubt, provide us the opportunity both as individuals and as a nation to reflect on how we have behaved towards friends, family and colleagues throughout the last year.

As we enter the New Year, we hope that the living standard of all Gambians will be improved.

We also hope that there will be continued peace, progress and prosperity for all those living in the Smiling Coast of Africa, in the coming months and beyond.

We, therefore, implore all Gambians and non -Gambians working and living in this country to rededicate more efforts and resources this year to better the lot of our people.

It is our hope that there will be steadily stable food prices in the country this year, to ensure a healthy and happy life for all citizens.

It is also our anticipation that the New Year will give us the chance to strengthen our democracy, through promoting respect for human rights and good governance.

We further anticipate that the advent of the New Year will avail us the opportunity to foster press freedom and freedom of expression.

If we have made enemies during the year, we must seek to make peace with these people and start afresh in the New Year.

The New Year celebration will be an opportunity for a new leaf to be turned over by all of us, and we must seize the opportunity.

We pray for peace, love and prosperity for all the people of The Gambia, and for better understanding among us all.
