Hon. Aminata Hydara Elected WR Speaker

Youths in Western Region recently elected Hon. Aminata Hydara as the Speaker of the Western Region Youth Parliament during their congress held in Brikama. 

Speaking on the occasion Lamin Sanneh, Governor of the region, called on the young people to make effective representation in the regional parliament.

Governor Sanneh advised young people to critically analyse the credentials of candidates before giving them the responsibility.

He urged the youth that representation based on the interest of those that they claim to be representing, is the best way of representation.

The outgoing Speaker of national youth parliament of the Gambia, Hon. Lamin F. Bojang, stressed that there would be no meaningful development without change of attitude and young people; he said it needs those who are ready to volunteer for their cause.

He informed the gathering that as young people the development of the country lies in their hands.

Honourable Bojang challenged young people to be prepared for the responsibility that lies ahead of them as future leaders.

He congratulated RAID the Gambia and the UNFPA for jointly establishing the organization of the national youth parliament in The Gambia.

Lamin Gassama, the vice chairperson of WR Youth committee, in delivering the solidarity statement noted that the youth Parliament is not different from the National Assembly. The youth parliament, he explained also represents the young people.

The congress also elected Hon Samba Bah as deputy speaker, Hon Fatoumata S. Baldeh as clerk, Hon. Lamin Bah as deputy clerk while Hon Mariatou Colley maintained her seat as Finance officer.

The Regional congress was attended by youth representatives from across the region.
