Help the sick

Jan 13, 2011, 12:16 PM

The recent donation by the Youth Council of the Young Men Christian Association (YMCA) of laundry materials to the Tanka Tanka Psychiatric  Hospital is a real humanitarian gesture.

The donated materials will greatly help the hospital.

If there is one thing we have to understand in life, it is that nobody is immume to sickness, because it has no boundary.

Sickness does not know whether one is rich or poor.

Therefore, it is high time for people to give great attention to the TANKA TANKA Psychiatric Hospital.

The hospital is purely for treating the sick people, and not a dumping place for the mentally ill, as some people think.

Thus, it is sometimes sad to hear that when people bring their sick patients to TANKA TANKA, they never even bother to visit them again nor buy provisions for them to use.

We have to understand that people admitted at TANKA TANKA should not be discriminated against.

We are calling on organizations to support the psychiatric unit of TANKA TANKA for God’s sake.

Being a psychiatric patient does not mean that is the end of life.

We have seen people who pass through this hospital, but are today well and contributing positively towards the socio-economic development of this country.

What we have to do, as responsible parents, is to advice the young ones not to use illicit drugs, and to avoid other social vices that do not go well with society.

The Ministry of Health and Social Welfare alone cannot cater for all the needs of the sick  people at the hospital.

Organizations and individuals should also provide support through the provision of clothing and food and to also visit them regularly at the hospital, and during the time of national feasts.
